Community members gathered in Tiffany Park on Friday, March 20, for a tree lighting and community reflection hosted by Parks and Recreation.
The event created a meaningful space for participants to reflect on grief, loss, and caregiving. It took place in front of "Gravity is a Law in the Material World, Levitation is a Law in the Spiritual World," a memorial commissioned in the 1990s to honor lives lost.
Roy Remer, executive director of the Zen Caregiving Project, spoke about grief and led attendees in a moment of reflection. City Chaplain Paul Mowry also guided reflection and meditation.
The group walked to Viña del Mar Plaza to witness the lighting of a tree, which will remain lit through the end of April. Sausalito First Lady and local artist Lucinda Eubanks led participants in creating paper ornaments of remembrance for the tree. After the ornaments were hung and the tree was lit, participants gathered at Franko & Co., which graciously stayed open late for coffee and conversation.
Resident Laurie Tandy attended the event and captured the first two photos above— thank you for documenting these moments. Additional thanks to Parks and Recreation Chair Stacy Kray, Sausalito Village, Age Friendly Sausalito, the Sausalito Woman's Club, and everyone who participated.
Community members are invited to make butterflies to add to the tree through April at the P.A.I.N.T Art Collective Gallery at 8 Princess Street in Sausalito. The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
