Post Date:05/08/2026
City Council voted unanimously to appoint Elaine Forbes as the new City Manager at a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5. Forbes will take office on July 1

"People from around the world save money and dream of coming to Sausalito for very good reasons. I'm incredibly honored to join this community," Forbes said at the City Council meeting.

Forbes spent nine years as the director of the Port of San Francisco. Before serving as Port Director, Forbes served as Deputy Director for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer at the Port of San Francisco. She also held leadership roles in Oakland and San Francisco, including Director of Finance at the San Francisco Planning Department. She attended elementary and middle school in San Rafael and is excited to return to work in Marin County.

Each council member welcomed Forbes, and Vice Mayor Blaustein presented her with a City of Sausalito pin.

"We are so lucky to have someone of your caliber, experience, connections, network, and also kind personality and demeanor," said Vice Mayor Blaustein. "A big thank you to City Manager Zapata for setting us up for success and for doing so much work here in our community."

Mayor Woodside explained that selecting a City Manager is one of the most important decisions the council makes.

"Elaine has proven to be a strong executive and it's important for this community to have a strong executive to help us sort through the many issues that we face," said Mayor Woodside. "We are so excited that you are here."
