Upcoming weather event and potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS)
Post Date:05/15/2026The National Weather Service is forecasting breezy to gusty winds Friday through Monday, with the strongest winds expected Saturday and Sunday (gusts 45–55 mph).
Key impacts include:
Elevated fire weather conditions (low humidity and strong winds)
Hazardous marine and beach conditions (high surf, strong rip currents)
Potential for tree damage and localized impacts from strong winds
Minor coastal flooding impacts possible during overnight high tides in low-lying or flood-prone areas
Coastal hazards are expected Friday afternoon through Monday morning, with dangerous beach and marine conditions. In addition, elevated nighttime high tides are expected in Marin County from Friday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 20. These tides may contribute to minor flooding in vulnerable low-lying coastal areas, particularly if combined with wave action, poor drainage, or debris-blocked storm drains. Localized roadway ponding and impacts to shoreline access areas are possible during peak overnight tide periods.
PG&E is monitoring a potential PSPS event and will enter a readiness posture at noon on Friday, May 15. PG&E plans to activate their EOC at 6 p.m. today to support coordination and planning. The earliest projected date for a potential power outage is Sunday, May 17.
At this time, this is for awareness only. Marin County is near the threshold for impacts, while Napa and Sonoma Counties are more likely to experience stronger winds.
