Bicycle Traffic Down in 2017

Post Date:07/03/2017 10:49 PM
Statistics released by the Sausalito Police Department indicate that the number of bicycles entering Sausalito from the south in May 2017 was down 32% from May 2016. The data is collected at our southern city limits during peak bicycle hours. The drop in May 2017 follows a 23% decline in April 2017, compared to April 2016. Poor weather in 2017 could account for some of the decline.

Bicycle counts:
  • May 2016: 32,902
  • May 2017: 22,376
  • April 2016: 30,525
  • April 2017: 23,413
Income from the valet bicycle parking lot on Tracy Way was down 16.5% in May 2017 compared to May 2016. Despite the decrease, the SausalitoPlus Bicycle Ambassador Program is operating at a surplus at this point in the 2017 bicycle season, with total revenues of $53,241 versus total expenditures of $52,275.34.
