Turney Street Dock and Boat Ramp Improvement Project

The City of Sausalito is one of the oldest communities in Marin incorporated in 1893. Sausalito is situated between Richardson Bay and the Marin Headlands, across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. This City's natural beauty and central location have created multiple, growing pressures unique to the City’s character and composition. Given Sausalito’s location, Richardson Bay is a popular community hotspot where boating recreation can be conveniently accessed and is embedded deeply in Sausalito’s culture as a boating community. The City and our residents are strongly committed to preserving the existing character and community assets which includes water and boating access. The Turney Street Boat Ramp and Dock is the only public, free boat ramp in southern Marin County and serves as an important public use access point for motorized and non-motorized recreation, and emergency access for Richardson Bay and the whole San Francisco Bay.

The Turney Street Dock is over sixty years old and lacks many modern safety features. Additionally, climate change, specifically rising sea levels, may continue to impact the area. The daily window for safe boat launching from this site is frequently brief and prevents easy boating access. In 2025 the City of Sausalito received a grant from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to conduct planning and community engagement for improvements to be made to the Turney Street Dock and Boat Ramp to ensure continued motorized and nonmotorized boating access.

The City of Sausalito is seeking consultant services to conduct community engagement, conceptual, 65% design, environmental review and up to 90% design for improvements to increase safety and accessibility to the Turney Street Dock and Boat Ramp.

The City of Sausalito invites qualified firms (“Proposers”) to submit proposals for the development of a Turney Street Dock and Boat Ramp Improvement Project. The submission of a proposal may lead to the award of a Professional Services Agreement (“Agreement”), using the form attached as Attachment 4, Professional Services Agreement. If the City decides to award the Agreement to a Proposer, it will be a fixed-price contract.
