Councilmember Joe Burns was elected to his first four-year term on the Sausalito City Council in November, 2016. Prior to being elected to the City Council Joe served over six years on the Parks and Recreation Commission. He served as vice mayor in 2018 and the Mayor in 2019.
Joe serves on the OMIT Committee and as the Council's liaison to the Library Board of Trustees, the newly esatablished Economic Development Advisory Committee, and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee. He also serves on the Marin County Council of Mayors and Councilmembers Economic Recovery Committee, the Marin Emergency Radio Authority as the City's Alternate School District Liaison and Alternate Marin Clean Energy Representative.
He is a former Willow Creek Foundation board member and Sausalito Beautiful study group member, currently drives for the CARSS program and leads the effort to start a youth softball league for girls in Sausalito. He is also a former property manager of the MLK property and provided additional facility management services to the city.
Joe is a licensed real estate broker and began his career in the industry over 30 years ago, as he completed his marketing degree from Fresno State University. His current specialty is selling residential property throughout the North Bay, with a focus on serving his Sausalito neighbors.
Along with his full-time commitment to real estate sales and serving on the Council, Joe is passionate about coaching high school softball at the Bay School of San Francisco and providing his daughter the best of the Marin lifestyle that includes a perfect blend of urban and rural experiences.
