What We Do in Community Development
- Guide the physical development of the City including public and private building projects
- Ensure that new development projects are consistent with the General Plan, the Zoning Ordinance, and other local regulations
- Ensure that all construction projects conform with state and local construction codes
- Conduct in-progress inspections of construction projects
- Enforce the City's health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Provide public notices of City Council, Planning Commission, and Zoning Administrator hearings coordinated by the Community Development Department, as well as notices for actions by the Community Development Director
Roles & Responsibilities
- Planning Division:
- Issue permits for development projects proposed by private individuals
- Undertake the preparation of advance planning projects such as the General Plan Update
- Provide staff support for the Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and the City Council
- Enforce the City's development regulations and permit conditions through the efforts of a Code Enforcement Officer
- Building Division:
- Uses a concurrent plan check process for the review of construction plans for Building Permits
- Ensure full compliance with local ordinances and state building codes through the efforts of a Building Inspector
- Assess fines and fees for construction projects
