Overview of City Services During the COVID-19 Outbreak

City Administration

  • Services are provided via telephone and email: (415) 289-4165 or admin@sausalito.gov.
  • City Council meetings and essential meetings of City boards and commissions will be held via video conference during the shelter in place order.

Community Development

Per the public health order effective May 4, 2020, all construction projects can resume, provided they comply with the construction project safety protocols for large and small projects issued as part of the order. Construction projects in Sausalito will be subject to the Community Development Department's updated COVID‐19 Prioritization and Protocols.
  • Building Permits
    • All planning and building services have been moved to virtual appointments only (over the phone, email, or a virtual meeting).
    • Building permits currently in the pipeline continue to be processed. All new permit applications will continue to be accepted.
    • All submittals are now being conducted through eTRAKiT.

  • Planning Permits
    • All planning and building services have been moved to virtual appointments only (over the phone, email, or a virtual meeting).
    • Planning permits currently in the pipeline will continue to be processed. All new permit applications will continue to be accepted. The issuance of permits will be on a case-by-case basis depending on the nature of the permit and the ability of staff and the public to process the permit while sheltering in place.
    • All submittals will be conducted either via email or through eTRAKiT.

  • Building Inspections
    • Building inspections continue as staffing allows, with a move to as many virtual inspections as possible. Inspections requiring in-person inspection will be performed with new health and safety protocols in place.
    • Please contact Building Inspector Kenneth Henry at (415) 289-4136 or khenry@sausalito.gov to see if your project qualifies for a virtual inspection.

  • Residential Building Reports
    • The City continues to accept applications for, and issue, residential building reports.
    • A residential building report is required prior to the sale or exchange of any residential building in the City of Sausalito.

Department of Public Works

  • Maintenance of City roads, sewers, and other facilities continues as usual.
  • Maintenance staff continue to assist with additional cleaning and implementation of protective measures for city infrastructures.
  • Street personnel are working with custodial staff to address increased frequency of cleaning requirements for public facilities.
  • The Engineering Division has modified its procedures by only accepting construction documentation both for land development submittals and encroachment permit applications electronically to better protect staff and the public.
  • Patrons can submit digital versions of permit applications and plans to the City for review.
  • Public Works staff continue to be present to assist the community during this pandemic.

Office of the City Clerk

Parks and Recreation

  • The Remington Dog Park closed effective April 1 based on new guidance from Marin HHS
  • Other City parks are still open to the public and being maintained as usual, but gatherings are not allowed and users are asked to maintain social distance
  • Public restrooms remain open and are being cleaned with greater frequency
  • Playland and the MLK Gym are closed to the public
  • Playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts, bocce courts, and exercise equipment are closed as of Tuesday, March 24

Police Department

  • Police department lobby at 29 Caledonia Street temporarily closed, but with no impact on services. A dedicated phone outside the building is available for 9-1-1 emergencies or non-emergency situations.
  • When possible, the police department will ask you to fill out a police report online or speak with an officer over the phone.

Sausalito Library

  • In accordance with the public health order, the Sausalito Library is currently closed to the public.
  • Sausalito residents are encouraged to take advantage of the library's digital collections of e-books, e-audiobooks, and streaming video, all of which will remain available.
  • Staff are available to help with your questions about library services or about using the library's digital collections like OverDrive and Kanopy. For staff help, please call (415) 289-4121 and leave a message when prompted. You may also send email to reference@sausalito.gov. Staff will be returning calls and email messages Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.
  • The library is waiving overdue fines on Sausalito Library books and other material; please keep your library materials at home until we are able to reopen.
  • Due dates for all materials are being extended indefinitely.
  • All book drops at City Hall have been closed.

  • Fire protection and paramedic services are uninterrupted
  • Fire stations closed to the public
  • Plan review and permit applications being processed digitally
  • Vegetation management projects to reduce the threat of wildfire will continue during the shelter-in-place order
