About the Proposed Sewer Rate Increase

  • Every five years, the City of Sausalito assesses its sewer management costs and needs, then establishes sewer rates to support those needs.
  • Based on the current rate study, the City of Sausalito is proposing to raise the City's rates by an aggregate of 4% per year over the next five years
  • Funds generated by the higher rates will make it possible for the City to make capital improvements that are necessary for us to continue to maintain compliance with Clean Water Act requirements
  • A public hearing on the proposed increase has been scheduled for June 18, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers
  • Any affected property owner or tenant may submit a written protest to the proposed increase to sewer service charges (details below)
  • If approved, the new rates would go into effect on July 1, 2019; the first bill for most customers would appear on the annual property tax due in December 2019
  • A mailer explaining the proposed changes and announcing the public hearing was sent to sewer customers in Sausalito on May 2, 2019. A second mailer was sent jointly by the City of Sausalito and the Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District on May 15, 2019.

Only one protest will be counted per parcel
  • Written protests may be submitted by mail to the City of Sausalito, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito, CA 94965
