About the November 4, 2025 Special Municipal Election
- On August 5, 2025, the Sausalito City Council voted to place Measure J (Sausalito Commercial District Local Control Measure) and Measure K (Sausalito MLK Local Control Measure) on the November 4, 2025 special municipal election ballot.
- If approved by Sausalito voters, both measures would amend the Sausalito Zoning Code to bring the City into compliance with State Housing Element Law, which requires the City to update its local zoning to accommodate 724 new housing units—including affordable housing—by the state law deadline of January 30, 2026.
- If the City’s Zoning Code is not amended under both Measures J and K Sausalito will not be in compliance with State Housing Element Law, which could subject the City to potential fines, litigation, and loss of local control of zoning decisions.
- Because of the State’s deadline, the City Council called for this special election so voters can decide before January 30, 2026.
- Election results may be found at the website of the Marin County Election Department.
