Resale Requirements: Residential Building Record Report
Prior to the sale or exchange of any residential building in the City of Sausalito, the owner or his or her agent must obtain from the City aResidential Building Record Report showing the regularly authorized use, occupancy, and zoning classification of the property (Municipal Code Section 8.32.010).
Fees can be paid with a check or an invoice will be sent. On February 27, 2018, the City Council adopted a new fee schedule, increasing the Residential Building Report fee starting May 1st, 2018.
The Report must be delivered to the buyer of the residential building prior to the consummation of the sale or exchange. The City does not conduct a physical building inspection. Allow a minimum of two weeks for preparation of the report.
A completed Application for Residential Building Record Report with the application fee may be mailed, emailed, or delivered to the Sausalito Community Development Department at 420 Litho Street, Sausalito, CA 94965,CDD@sausalito.gov

Resale Requirements: Sewer Lateral Video Inspection
As of August 22, 2025, the Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District owns and operates the City of Sausalito sewer collections systems.
The Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District (SMCSD) requires a compliance certificate for all private laterals located in the City of Sausalito when the property's title is being transferred (resale), change in customer, remodel or construction over $50,000 and change in use (i.e. second dwelling).
