 Inspections During the Public Health Order to Shelter at Home

  • In-person building permit inspections will continue Monday and on an as-needed basis on Thursday, with new protocols to ensure that health and safety practices are followed and an initial screening conducted over the phone prior to scheduling the inspection
  • Virtual inspections will occur Monday - Friday for smaller improvements (i.e., water heaters, furnaces, roofs). Please contact Building Inspector Kenneth Henry at (415) 289-4136 or to see if your project qualifies for a virtual inspection.

 How to Schedule Inspections

  • Inspection requests should be made on the 24 hour Inspection Request Line at (415) 289-4100 ext. 811.
  • Callers will need to provide the following information in their request:
    • Day and date of Inspection (Inspections are performed Monday and on an as-needed basis Thursday)
    • Permit Number
    • Site Address
    • Time Preference: AM (9:00am -12:00pm) or PM (1:00pm-4:00pm)
    • Type of Inspection
    • Contact Name
    • Contact Phone Number

Inspection Information

  • Inspection requests must be made prior to 7:00 a.m. the day of the inspection to make the daily schedule.
  • Inspections are ordered on a first come, first serve basis. The requests may be rescheduled or cancelled due to high volumes of requests or inability to provide an inspector for the requested time. If an inspection is changed or cancelled by an the Building Department staff, a phone call will be returned no later than 8:00 a.m. the day of inspection.
  • There will be no confirmation call made upon scheduling. If a change is needed to be made by the Building Department staff, a call will be made to the contact number.
  • Re-inspections resulting from no-shows or failed prior inspection will be charged a re-inspection fee of $75.00.
  • A responsible party shall be on site during the inspection and have the following paperwork on site:
    • Building approved plan set
    • Any additional documents issued with the plan sets (i.e. structural calculations, geotechnical reports, etc.)
    • The job card issued with the building permit

**Pursuant to Sausalito Municipal Code Section 12.16.140, Homeowners currently residing on the property and all other legal residents may operate construction, demolition, excavation, alteration or repair devices and equipment themselves on their own property on Sundays and holidays officially recognized by the City: provided, that such operations occur between 9:00am and 6:00pm and otherwise comply with the City's laws regulating noise.
