Any work performed in the public right-of-way ( sidewalk or roadway) requires an encroachment permit. Visit our Encroachment Permit page to learn more about the process and requirements.

Please note that encroachment permits are not issued over the counter, and have a turn around time of about four weeks. Submittals that are incomplete & cannot be reviewed until all above required items are received by the City, and all submittals are processed in the order in which they were received. Submitting all required documents as described below is the best strategy to expedite your review.

$75 Encroachment (City streets/sidewalks)
- $3/day/parking spot. An additional $20/day for a metered spot.
To submit an encroachment application, email completed application & all supplemental documents together to mlockett@sausalito.gov.
For filming on city property, we require proof of minimum insurance coverage limits of $2,000,000 general aggregate and $1,000,000 each occurrence with City of Sausalito (420 Litho Street, Sausalito, CA 94965) listed as additionally insured on your event date. Please have the Description of Operations reflect the language below:
“The City of Sausalito, its officers, employees, elected and appointed officials, representatives, volunteers and agents are added as Additional Insured excluding workers' compensation and Employer's Liability policy as required by written contract but limited to the operations of the Insured under said contract and always subject to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions".
The film permit application below is required for filming and photography taking place on the property of the City of Sausalito. You will be contacted within 3-5 days regarding your application. Film permit applications must be submitted two weeks before activity date, or a rush fee may be charged.
Filming Fees:
- $175 Still Photography
- $315 Video, Documentary, Corporate, Industrial, Short
- $500 Commercial
- $700 TV Series, Feature Film
- $100 Rush Fee (less than 2 weeks notice)
Park rental fees may apply if filming at a city park.
