COMING SOON! New Parking Pay Stations for Municipal Parking Lots and Parking Programs Update

The City of Sausalito is preparing to begin installation of new parking pay stations starting May 4, 2026, as part of an effort to modernize its parking payment infrastructure and improve reliability and customer service. This transition was previously reviewed and approved by the City Council on November 18, 2025. The physical replacement of the existing pay stations is expected to occur over a short installation period.

Scope of the Transition

This pay station transition applies specifically to the City’s municipal parking facilities, including Municipal Parking Lots 1 through 4 and the Sausalito Yacht Harbor parking lot. At this time, on-street parking meters and other parking areas not listed above are not included in this phase of the transition.

Payment Options at the New Pay Stations

As part of the upgrade to the new parking pay stations, the majority of the new equipment will support credit card payments only. To continue providing a cash payment option, one pay station at each municipal parking lot will be equipped to accept coin payments. Paper currency (bills) will not be accepted at any of the new pay stations.

The new pay stations will also no longer dispense printed paper receipts. Customers who wish to receive confirmation of their parking session will have the option to receive a digital receipt by text message during the payment process.

Resident Parking Benefit Program Update

On April 21, 2026, the City Council reviewed the future of the Resident Parking Benefit Program and approved maintaining the program in its current form.

The Resident Parking Benefit Program will remain the same:

  • 3 hours of free parking daily in Downtown Municipal Parking Lots 1–4 between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Residents pay for any parking time over 3 hours before 6:00 p.m.
  • Free parking from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • No payment or active parking session required from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

As part of the transition to the new pay stations, the current Resident Parking Passcards will no longer be compatible with the new equipment once it is installed. The resident program will move to a cardless system.

Approved residents will be able to activate their parking benefit in two ways:

Option 1 – ParkMobile
Residents who prefer to start a parking session from their phone may use the ParkMobile app.

Option 2 – Pay Station
Residents who prefer not to use a smartphone may activate their parking session directly at the pay station using their City-issued 6-digit PIN.

Residents are not required to use ParkMobile. They may choose either ParkMobile or the pay station to start a parking session.

Residents who are already approved for the program will not need to reapply and will not be charged a new application fee as part of this transition. Additional instructions regarding PIN issuance and how to use the new system will be provided before the new pay stations go live.

Employee and Commuter Parking Program Update

As part of the transition to the new pay stations, the current Employee and Commuter Parking Program cards will no longer be compatible with the new equipment once it is installed.

Under the new system, eligible employee and commuter participants will also transition to a cardless system and will use a City-issued 6-digit PIN at the pay station to access their parking rate.

Additional instructions regarding how employee and commuter participants will receive and use their PINs will be provided before the new pay stations go live.

Transition Assistance and Public Outreach

The City will provide clear printed instructions and public outreach so customers understand how to use the new pay stations and what to expect during the transition. Residents who need help may also contact the Sausalito Parking Authority for assistance.
