About Area Parking Permits

  • Residential Area Parking Permits

    Some residential areas in Sausalito have limited parking availability, so two-hour parking time limits are enforced
  • As a resident in these areas, you may be eligible to purchase an annual parking permit for your vehicle which allows you to park in excess of the posted time limits
  • The affected areas stretch from Old Town to the Caledonia Street neighborhood, see the map below for reference

  • The customized Google Map below indicates the locations of our three area parking permit zones in Sausalito: Areas B, C and H
  • For more information, including address eligibility, please see the detailed lists further below

How To Apply

  • To apply for an area parking permit, you will need to bring proof of Sausalito residency (within the specific permit area) and current vehicle registration(s)
  • Residential and Guest Parking Permits may be obtained during business hours from the Sausalito Parking Authority within the Sausalito Police Department, at 29 Caledonia Street
    • Business hours are: Monday-Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Questions about area parking permits may be directed to the Sausalito Parking Authority at (415) 289-4170 or parking@sausalito.gov

Area Parking Permit Regulations

  • Permits do not allow free parking at street meters
  • Permits do not allow vehicles to park in excess of the 72-hour parking restriction
  • Vehicle-specific permits must be displayed on the vehicle to which the permit was issued and must be affixed on the driver’s side of the rear bumper
    • Improperly displayed permits are considered invalid
    • Vehicles with improperly displayed permits may be cited for overtime parking
    • Permits are only valid for the vehicle and area for which it was issued

Area B Residential Parking Permit

  • Cost: $35.00/vehicle per year
    • Replacement cost of lost/stolen permit is $10.00
  • Permit is available to most residents living in the vicinity of Bulkley and Harrison Streets
  • All vehicles - including guests - must have a permit to park in excess of two hours within the designated area
  • Up to 2 guest permits are available per resident and/or address and may ONLY be used while visiting the resident
    • Any misuse may result in the permanent loss of all permit rights and/or issuance of a citation
  • Area B permits good only in the Area B parking zone

Area C Residential Parking Permit

  • Cost: $35.00/vehicle per year
    • Replacement cost of lost/stolen permit is $10
  • Permit is available to most residents living in the Caledonia to Bonita & Johnson to Litho Street areas
  • All vehicles - including guests - must have a permit to park in excess of two hours within the designated area
  • Up to 2 guest permits are available per resident and/or address and may ONLY be used while visiting the resident
    • Any misuse may result in the permanent loss of all permit rights and/or issuance of a citation
  • Area C permits good only in the Area C parking zone
  • Important Note!
    • Area C Permits cannot be used to park in excess of posted time limits found on Caledonia Street
    • Time limits on Caledonia Street, typically 2 hours, are strictly enforced

  • Cost: $35.00/vehicle per year
    • Replacement cost of lost/stolen permit is $10
  • Permit is available to residents living in the area known as "Hurricane Gulch"
  • All vehicles - including guests - must have a permit to park in excess of two hours within the designated area
  • Up to 2 guest permits are available per resident and/or address and may ONLY be used while visiting the resident
    • Any misuse may result in the permanent loss of all permit rights and/or issuance of a citation
  • Area H permits good only in the Area H parking zone

Area D Residential Parking Permit

  • Cost: $190.00/vehicle per quarter
  • Permit is available to residents who reside in specific areas of downtown Sausalito, see below
  • The permit allows unlimited parking in Public Parking Lot #3, located at Bridgeway & Bay Streets
  • Premium D Permits are also valid in the regular D permit areas
  • D Permits are not valid at street parking meters

  • 1-40 and 90-92 Princess
  • #7 Excelsior only
