About Parking for Commuters and Downtown Employees

  • If you commute to or from Sausalito, you may be eligible for reduced rates in some of Sausalito's public parking lots
  • Daily Parking Cards provide all-day parking for a reduced rate in some lots
  • Rental Parking Permits are purchased quarterly and allow unlimited parking in some lots

Daily Parking Cards

What is a Daily Parking Card?

  • Daily Parking SmartCard

    Daily Parking Cards are designed to allow enrolled daily parkers to park in Public Parking Lots #3 & #4 all day for a flat fee of $4 per parking session
  • Daily Parking Cards require money to be loaded onto the card to operate, card balances may be conveniently recharged at the parking pay stations located in the downtown municipal lots 
  • To apply, download the Daily Parking Card Application
  • You may submit your completed application and all required supporting documents:
    • In-person at the Sausalito Parking Authority Parking Office located at the Sausalito Police Department 29 Caledonia Street during business hours, Mon.-Thurs. 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    • The Parking Office is closed to the public while the Shelter-in-Place Public Health Order is in effect.

Replacing a Daily Parking Card

  • Report your lost or stolen daily parking card to the Sausalito Parking Authority by email at parking@sausalito.gov or by phone at (415) 289-4116
    • It is important to report a lost or stolen daily parking card as soon as possible
    • If you have remaining funds on your lost or stolen card the funds may be transferred to a replacement daily parking card during the reapplication process
    • Notify the Sausalito Parking Authority that the daily parking card is no longer in your possession so that it may be deactivated immediately
  • If you suspect your daily parking card is damaged and is no longer unusable in a parking pay station you may apply for a replacement daily parking card following the standard application process
    • The damaged card's balance may be recovered and transferred to another card
    • Bring your most recent daily parking receipt to aid with the balance transfer

Rental Parking Permits

  • Two different types of permits are available for purchase on a quarterly basis: D permits and L permits
  • These permits allow access to all-day parking in one or more public parking lots in Sausalito
  • Permits may be obtained through the Sausalito Parking Authority; please email parking@sausalito.gov or call (415) 289-4170 with questions
  • Permits must be affixed to the rear bumper of the vehicle to which it was assigned

D Permits

  • Cost per vehicle: $260 per calendar quarter
  • Parking Area: these permits allow unlimited parking in Public Parking Lot #3 and Public Parking Lot #4, with overflow parking available in Public Parking Lot #5
  • These permits are available to anyone, including Sausalito residents, non-residents, merchants and employees

L Permits

  • Cost per vehicle: $110 per calendar quarter
  • Parking Area: these permits allow unlimited parking in Public Parking Lot #5, in spaces so designated with "Permit" signs. L permits are only good in this lot and may not be used in any other permit area
  • These permits are available to anyone, including Sausalito residents, non-residents, merchants and employees

D and L Permit Parking Regulations

  • Permit Placement Requirement
    • Vehicle-specific permits are considered valid only when affixed to the driver's side rear bumper
    • Permits are only valid for the vehicle to which it was issued
    • Improperly displayed permits are considered invalid
    • Vehicles with invalid and/or improperly displayed permits may be cited for overtime parking
  • 72-Hour Restriction
    • Displaying a valid parking permit does not exclude a vehicle form the 72-hour parking restriction enforced city-wide
    • You must still move your vehicle every three days or it may be cited and/or towed
