About Sewer Lateral Inspection

  • The Sausalito Municipal Code requires the inspection of sewer service laterals for surface water connections or inlets via a pressure test or a video camera inspection
  • Sewer Video Submittal Instructions:

**As of August 22, 2025, the Sausalito Marin City Sanitary District owns and operates the City of Sausalito sewer collections systems.  All new sewer lateral video inspections should be submitted to SMCSD: https://sausalitomarincitysanitarydistrict.com/customer-information/sewer-laterals/sewer-lateral-compliance-certificates/

    • For applicants already in the CCTV process with us, to submit a sewer video inspection for review, upload the video inspection with report & diagram showing the location of sewer system including depths/dimensions on the property to our Sharepoint account. Hard copies of submittals are also accepted during our counter hours Monday through Wednesday from 9am-12pm, or by mail to: City of Sausalito, Attn: Megan Lockett, 420 Litho Street, Sausalito, CA 94965
    • **Please note that submittals are incomplete & cannot be reviewed until all above required items are received by the City, and all submittals are processed in the order in which they were received
    • If the property has a sewer ejection system, the applicant needs to coordinate with a qualified contractor to meet the City's Sewer Coordinator onsite and run the system through its paces in addition to submittal of the video inspection.
    • Sewer Video Inspections require a minimum review time of two weeks from the date the complete sewer video submittals are received by the City, and the review time depends on the size of our current queue for review
    • If the sewer video inspection is rejected by the City's third-party reviewer & an additional submittal is required, there is an additional fee due for each review
  • The Sewer Systems Coordinator performs onsite inspections related to:
    • Exterior sewer lateral repairs, replacement, and new installations
    • Sewer ejection system repairs, replacements, and new installations
    • Hydro mechanical and gravity grease interceptor repairs, replacement, and new installations
  • The Sewer Systems Coordinator performs plan set reviews and facilitates meet and confer sessions with property owners, architects, engineers, realtors and contractors
  • Any questions related to sewer inspections may be directed to (415) 289-4109 or sewer@sausalito.gov
