About Resident Parking Benefit Program

The City of Sausalito offers a Resident Parking Benefit Program to provide eligible residents with convenient parking access in the City’s downtown public parking lots.

Residents enrolled in the program may receive up to three hours of free parking daily in eligible municipal parking lots when using the program.

As part of the City’s ongoing parking system upgrades, the Resident Parking Benefit Program is being modernized and added to the ParkMobile app platform. This new system will allow residents to access their parking benefits directly from their smartphone Park Mobile app – making parking faster, easier, and paperless.

Residents living at an eligible, residential address with the 94965 ZIP code are eligible to apply for access to the Resident Parking Benefit Program. The 3 hours of free parking daily is eligible for downtown Municipal Parking Lots 1-4.

How to Apply

New applicants must apply and receive approval before accessing the resident parking benefit.

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide:

  • Complete application. Download the application here.
  • Proof of residency at an eligible residential address within the 94965 ZIP Code
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Current vehicle registration documentation

Applications and copies of required documents may be submitted by email or mail.

Application Fee

A $25.00 non-refundable application fee is required to process the application for the Residential Parking Benefit Program.

Payment options include:

  • Check or money order payable to City of Sausalito
  • Credit or debit card via a Square invoice that will be emailed after the application is received.

How The Resident Parking Benefit Program Works

Eligible residents may receive up to three hours of free parking daily in Municipal parking lots 1 thru 4. Residents can start their parking session using one of two methods:

Option 1 — Use the ParkMobile App

Residents may start their parking session using the ParkMobile mobile app.

Steps

  1. Open the ParkMobile app.
  2. Enter the parking zone number and the correct space number.
  3. Choose desired parking time.
  4. Start your parking session.

Your resident parking benefit will automatically be applied once your approved email address is verified in the system.

NOTE: A $0.45 ParkMobile convenience fee will apply to each transaction started through the ParkMobile app. A monthly Park Mobile subscription for $3.99 per month is also available through the app, but is not required. 

Option 2 — Use the Pay Station

Residents may also start their parking session at the parking pay station.

Steps

  1. Select the Residential Parking option on the pay station screen.
  2. Enter your 6-digit PIN associated with your Resident Parking Benefit Program.
  3. Follow the prompts to begin your parking session.

No ParkMobile convenience fee applies when starting your session directly at the pay station.

Parking Benefit Examples:

Example 1 — Parking for 3 Hours

  • Resident starts a parking session for 3 hours or less.
  • The system applies the resident parking benefit of up to three hours of free parking.
  • No parking charge is applied. But must still complete the transaction.

Example 2 — Parking for 5 Hours

  • Resident starts a parking session for five hours.
  • The first three hours are free under the resident parking benefit.
  • The resident pays for the remaining two hours at the posted parking rate.

If the session was started through the ParkMobile app, the $0.45 convenience fee will also apply.

Important Reminder:

Residents must create their ParkMobile account using the exact same email address used when registering for the Resident Parking Benefit Program, as this email address is used to verify eligibility for the resident parking benefit.

For Current Passcard Holders

The City will be installing new parking pay stations in municipal parking lots in early May. When the transition is complete, existing Resident Parking Passcards will no longer be compatible with the new pay stations. And no new card will be issued. The new pay stations will use a 6-dight PIN verification process to provide approved residents their 3 hours of parking benefit daily.

Current Resident Parking Passcard holders may now access their resident parking benefits using the ParkMobile mobile app.

This new option allows residents to start their parking session directly from their smartphone Park Mobile app instead of needing to go to the pay station.

How to Activate Your Resident Parking Benefit in ParkMobile:

To access your resident parking benefits, please follow these steps:

  1. Download the ParkMobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Create or sign in to your ParkMobile account using the exact same email address used when you registered for the Resident Parking Passcard program.
  3. When you park, open the ParkMobile app and enter the parking zone number and the correct space number.
  4. Start your parking session in the ParkMobile app.

Once your email address is verified, the system will automatically apply the resident benefit of up to three hours of free parking daily.

If you choose to park longer than three hours, you may do so through the app and will only be charged for the additional time beyond the free parking period.

Important Note:

  • A $0.45 ParkMobile convenience fee will apply to each transaction.
  • The Resident Parking Passcard program remains the same; only the method of accessing the benefit is changing.
