Public Electric Vehicle Charging in Sausalito
The City of Sausalito provides 14 public Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations at three locations:
- City Hall: Four charging stations
- Dunphy Park: Six charging stations
- Municipal Parking Lot 2: Four charging stations
The chargers can accommodate Tesla and compatible non-Tesla electric vehicles. Connector compatibility and charging speed may vary by vehicle. Follow the instructions displayed at the charging station before beginning your session.
Charging fees apply at all locations. Review the rate displayed in the charging interface before starting because charging rates are subject to change.
Important: Lot 2 Requires Two Separate Payments
Electric vehicle drivers using a charging space in Municipal Parking Lot 2 must pay both the parking fee and the EV charging fee during the lot’s paid operating hours.
These are two separate transactions:
- Pay the parking fee through a parking pay station, ParkMobile, or Text.
- Pay the EV charging fee by following the payment instructions provided at the charging station.
Paying for EV charging does not include or replace the Lot 2 parking fee. Paying the Lot 2 parking fee does not include or replace the EV charging fee.
A vehicle may be cited for unpaid parking even when the driver has paid for an active charging session. Likewise, payment of the parking fee does not authorize use of an EV-designated space unless the vehicle is connected and actively charging.
General EV Charging Rules
- EV-designated spaces are reserved for electric vehicles that are connected and actively charging.
- Start the charging session immediately after parking.
- Move the vehicle promptly when charging is complete or when the posted time limit expires, whichever occurs first.
- Payment for charging does not extend the posted parking time limit.
- An electric vehicle that is not connected and actively charging may not occupy an EV charging-only space.
- Non-electric vehicles may not park in EV charging-only spaces.
- Always follow the posted signs and instructions at each location.
Vehicles parked in violation of the posted EV charging restrictions may be cited and/or towed.

Charging Rates and Payment
Charging rates are displayed before a charging session begins and are subject to change.
Before confirming a session:
- Review the displayed price per kilowatt-hour.
- Confirm that the correct charger has been selected.
- Make sure the vehicle has begun charging.
- Retain the electronic payment confirmation when available.
- Contact the charging provider using the support information displayed on the charger if a charging session does not begin or a billing problem occurs.
Disabled-Person Placards and Plates
A disabled-person placard or qualifying license plate does not authorize a vehicle to occupy an EV charging-only space unless the vehicle is eligible, connected, and actively charging.
Disabled-parking privileges do not provide an exemption from:
- EV charging fees
- The active-charging requirement
- Requirements to move the vehicle when charging is complete
- Any other posted safety or parking restriction
At Municipal Parking Lot 2, applicable disabled-parking privileges may affect the separate parking fee, but the EV charging fee remains required.
