Parking for Sausalito Residents

The City of Sausalito offers several parking programs designed specifically for Sausalito residents. Depending on where you live and where you need to park, you may be eligible for the Resident Parking Benefit, a Residential Area Parking Permit, or a Residential D Permit.

These are separate programs with different eligibility requirements, parking locations, fees, and regulations.

Resident Parking Benefit Program

Eligible Sausalito residents may receive up to three hours of free parking each day in Downtown Municipal Parking Lots 1–4.

The Resident Parking Benefit Program is now cardless! Approved residents may activate their parking benefit using:

  • The ParkMobile application; or
  • A six-digit resident PIN at a parking pay station

Residents must start a parking session every time they park, even when the entire session is covered by the free three-hour benefit.

The benefit is not valid:

  • At on-street parking meters
  • In Municipal Parking Lot 5
  • In the public parking spaces at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor
  • For electric-vehicle charging fees
  • In reserved, permit-only, loading, or otherwise restricted spaces

A $25 non-refundable application fee applies to new Resident Parking Benefit applications.

Visit the Resident Parking Benefit Program page for eligibility requirements, application instructions, and information about using the benefit.

Residential Parking Permit Areas B, C, and H

Some Sausalito neighborhoods have limited on-street parking and experience additional parking demand from nearby businesses, attractions, and visitors.

Residential parking permit Areas B, C, and H allow eligible residents and their guests to park beyond the posted time limits within their designated permit area.

Each area is geographically defined and requires its own permit. A permit issued for one area is not valid in another area.

Area B

Area B generally allows vehicles without permits to park for up to two hours during posted daytime hours.

After 6:30 p.m., a valid Area B permit is required where indicated by posted signs.

Area C

Area C generally allows vehicles without permits to park for up to two hours during posted daytime hours.

After 6:00 p.m., a valid Area C permit is required where indicated by posted signs.

Area C permits are not valid on Caledonia Street (except for between Bee and Napa street).

Area H

Area H generally allows vehicles without permits to park for up to two hours during the hours shown on posted signs.

Residents and guests must display a valid Area H permit to remain beyond the posted time limit.

Applying for an Area B, C, or H Permit

Only residents of eligible addresses within a designated permit area may apply.

Residents may apply for vehicle-specific permits and, where eligible, annual guest permits through the City’s online portal.

Apply through the Residential Parking Permit Portal

Visit the Area Parking Permits page to review:

  • Permit-area maps
  • Eligible addresses
  • Current permit fees
  • Guest permit information
  • Application requirements
  • Permit display and use regulations

For assistance with the online permit portal, call Permit Assistance at (800) 479-1834.

Residential D Permit

The Residential D Permit is available to residents of certain eligible downtown addresses who need regular parking in Municipal Parking Lot 3 or 4.

The Residential D Permit is different from the Area B, C, and H permits. It is a municipal parking lot permit—not a neighborhood street-parking permit.

Eligible Residential D Addresses

Residents of the following addresses may be eligible:

  • Bridgeway addresses from 400 through 1000
  • Princess Street addresses from 1 through 40
  • Princess Street addresses 90 and 92
  • 7 Excelsior Lane

Residential D Permit Information

  • Cost: $270 per vehicle per quarter
  • Parking location: Municipal Parking Lot 3 or 4 at Bridgeway and Bay Street to Johnson Street.
  • Permit type: Vehicle-specific quarterly permit
  • Street parking: Not valid at on-street parking meters

A Residential D Permit does not reserve or guarantee an available parking space and does not exempt a vehicle from the City’s 72-hour parking restriction.

The Residential D Permit should not be confused with the regular D Permit offered through the City’s commuter and downtown employee parking program.

For a Residential D Permit download application here or for assistance, contact Sausalito Parking Services at parking@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4116.

Important Resident Parking Reminders

  • Parking permits do not guarantee an available parking space.
  • Permits are valid only for the vehicle and parking area for which they were issued.
  • Vehicle-specific permits must be properly displayed on the assigned vehicle.
  • Permits do not authorize parking in restricted, prohibited, reserved, loading, disabled, or electric-vehicle charging spaces.
  • Posted signs, curb markings, street sweeping restrictions, and temporary no-parking signs must always be followed.
  • Parking permits and resident benefits do not provide an exemption from the City’s 72-hour parking restriction.
